St Mary’s churchMonday, 17 November 2008 We had a very enjoyable concert in the church on Saturday September 27th. This was given by Jim Lewis and the members of the Montague String Quartet, in aid of the Motor Neurone Society, and which raised £204.00.
On Sunday October 5th we held our Harvest Celebrations, and the auction of perishable goods raised £107 which has been sent to FARM-Africa, and the non perishables were given to Anglia Food Bank.(Cambridge) The windows were decorated again this year by our local groups. Thank you to every for your support for two very worthwhile charities.
Harvest Supper and Barn Dance. As usual the food was excellent, with quiches salads, cheese, apple pies and crumbles. We had a caller for the barn dance who exercised great patience, enthusiasm on the dancers part making up for lack of expertise, and every one had a great time. Thank you to everyone for your support and help. On Remembrance Sunday as many villages and churches everywhere, we remembered the dead and injured from both world wars, and all the other wars since. Ninety years ago the first world war ended, few people now remain who served during the period 1914-1918. Each year we come together to give thanks for the sacrifice of so many, and promise not to forget. We are reminded daily of those servicemen serving in Iran and Afghanistan, and we pray that peace will come to all those regions, where the killing and the conflict still goes on. ----------------------------------------------------
