New Community Beat Manager

Saturday, 08 June 2002

Hello, I am Chris Bradley and I am the new Community Beat Manager for the area, which includes the village of Hardwick. Fortunately, as far as I can see it has a relatively low crime rate. The general area has seen a reduction lately in shed burglaries but cars being broken into overnight is still very prevalent. The whole region is suffering from distraction burglaries as you may have seen in the local press. If you are elderly or have elderly neighbours, I would encourage the use of door chains. Do not let anyone in if you are not happy with his or her identity. Call the Police immediately if you are suspicious. Holiday time is fast approaching and I would ask that you make arrangements with a neighbour to keep an eye open for you. Signs of life and occupation are obviously a good idea, sometimes asking a neighbour to park their car on your drive can help. I have had some complaints about mopeds. I appreciate that living in a rural area some form of transport is helpful but please be considerate when around the village. I shall be paying particular attention over the next few weeks. If your son/daughter is one of the riders, please advise them accordingly. I can be contacted at Histon Police Station on 01223 358966.
