Make sure your property is secure

Friday, 15 November 2002

The crime trends on my beat at the moment seem to be dominated by shed burglaries and Hardwick has had two reported attacks on St Neots Rd. This crime has increased over the last few weeks and I would ask you to check your property is secure. Check that your security lighting is working and if you do not have any and feel your property would benefit from it this it can be purchased relatively cheaply. Now that the clocks have changed extra vigilance is needed in those few hours of darkness before most of us get home from work. There have been a few incidents of minor damage around the village, in some cases to elderly resident's property. If you see this occurring and can name offenders please let me know. They need to be dealt with. It is apparent that a number of youths under 18 years around the village are consuming alcohol, in some cases large quantities. If you have teenage children are you aware of where they are on Friday and Saturday nights and what they are drinking. This is becoming an increasing problem and it may be the time to remind our youngsters of their responsibilities to the community. Rowdy behaviour causes unnecessary distress to some of our elderly residents and should not be tolerated. There have been one or two house burglaries in the area although, so far Hardwick has avoided them in the last 6 weeks or so. Entry has been via the rear after negotiating a side gate. Please make every effort to secure side gates with a bolt inaccessible from the front. I am sure that a burglar will move on if he/she has to take any time forcing a gate. I do not want to be full of doom and gloom because in general I think it is a very pleasant village. On a lighter note I would like to wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas and thank you for making me so welcome since I started on the beat in March. If you wish to contact me about any matter this can be done through Histon Police Station on 01223 358966 or email chris.bradley@cambs.pnn.police.uk Chris Bradley - Community Beat Officer
