Local charity seeks volunteersThursday, 07 June 2007 Welcome Home From Hospital, who are based in Hardwick on old St Neots Road, are looking for volunteers. They are part of Care Network - a Cambridgeshire wide charity - and their volunteers provide practical help for people returning home after a period in hospital. Hilary Johnys, Co-ordinator, says, 'Volunteers are needed to offer short-term help (over a two week period) to do things like checking to see if someone is ok or perhaps shopping.' 'Our volunteers are people of all ages and backgrounds who can spare time to help out for a short period, sometimes it’s just for a one-off visit to sit and chat.' 'Our patients are extremely grateful for the help they receive and the volunteers find it a worthwhile experience’. ‘One volunteer told us, ‘I felt I really helped the client, he had so little in the way of support, we had a good shopping trip which helped him physically and mentally’. Welcome Home offers training in Health and Safety and travel and telephone expenses are paid. If you are interested in volunteering for Welcome Home From Hospital please contact Hilary or Emma on 01223 714433.Next: Council Chairman's Peruvian Challenge Previous: Chairman's Annual Report |
