Crime reduction in Hardwick

Friday, 23 April 2004

I am very pleased to say that the last year has seen considerable improvement in the crime figures for Hardwick. The total crime figure for the village has reduced from 87 (2002/2003) to 61 (2003/2004). This is from April to March, a reduction of almost 30%. There has, unfortunately been in increase in dwelling burglaries rising from 1 last year to 6 this year. In all other aspects the figures are down or level. I detail below the common crimes. Others recorded are in relation to domestic incidents or uncommon crimes , of which there are only one or two. There have been no other serious crimes recorded. Burglary Dwelling 6 (1) Burglary other incl. sheds/garages 4 (10) Actual Bodily Harm 1 (1) Theft 4 (4) Theft from Motor Vehicle 3 (12) Theft of motor vehicle 1 (4) Common Assault 2(6) Criminal Damage 24 (27) Theft from Shops 1 (2) 2002-2003 figures in brackets. It is still disappointing to see that the amount of criminal damage is still reasonably high. Together with South Cambridgeshire DC, the parish council and local schools we have been doing some work with the youth of Hardwick. This included the making of a video by them. The end result is very pleasing. If you recall I aimed last year to see a reduction in the level of criminal damage and this has been done. I would like to continue with that aim and reduce it even further over the next year. You can help me with this by reporting anyone committing damage. You can also help by reporting anyone suspicious to the police immediately. There still seems to be an element that hangs around near the old people's accommodation particularly in alleyways leading to the shops. If it is you, please have some respect for those living nearby and keep the noise down to a minimum. If they are your children, perhaps a gentle reminder about noise may help to improve their quality of life. I look forward to keeping in contact over the next year and would remind you that I can be contacted at Histon police station on 01223 358966 or email chris.bradley@cambs.pnn.police.uk Please do not email me however, if you wish to record a crime. This should be done through our crime management unit at Parkside on the above number. Chris Bradley - Community Beat Officer
