Set on an island approached through a 14th Century gatehouse in the beautiful Cuckmere Valley. It is surrounded by the longest water-filled medieval moat in England. The historic buildings include part of an Augustinian Priory that over 800 years evolved into a splendid country house. The property includes a fully restored watermill, an Elizabethan barn, a working forge and a rope museum. There are various planted areas, such as the moated walk around the island, and the Physic, Cloister and kitchen gardens. There is a licensed restaurant serving hot meals and home made cakes, an outside picnic area and a shop. The journey should take about two hours fifteen minutes, with a comfort stop on the way down. The cost including coach and admission charges is £17.00, paid at the time of booking. Please contact Thelma on 01954 210321 for a booking form or further information.
